In the late 1980’s Whitfield saw an opportunity to bring a new retail concept to Bermuda. At the time, the retail landscape needed something fresh. To fill the need, Whitfield forged a connection with Club Monaco, a Canadian retailer with modern fashion with clean lines. Whitfield built the inaugural International store outside of Canada and created a “first” for retail – a coffee bar & whole food restaurant inside the store.
The concept created a one-stop shopping environment for adult clothing, accessories, children’s fashion, clean food and a barista bar.
The store opening was announced before the holidays with a full frontal building postcard depicting an envelope addressed to Bermuda from Club Monaco. The unique store was custom designed and built by Whitfield with an espresso bar and a TV wall before flat screens were a concept. The store was decorated emphasizing a “Bermuda” theme with striped cabana change rooms, sand-coloured wood display cases and stylishly placed palm tree accents
